A crowd of over 400 people were on hand to watch 30 teams compete at the First Annual Republic Airlines/Frontier Airways “Pulling for Wishes” airplane pull. Everything from male ballerinas to divas to pieces of luggage to gladiator warriors were dressed in their finest, competing for best garb, fastest pull, and raising the most money. Bounce houses, face painting and characters including Mickey, Minnie,Dora, the Indianapolis Indians mascot Rowdy, Indianapolis Zoo animal mascots and our very own Sunny the Sunflower were part of the entertainment for all the kids and kids at heart. Dunkin Donuts provided coffee and donuts for everyone and Coca Cola donated water and soft drinks. The amount of money raised by the winning team, International Traveler Luggage, sponsored by International Traveler/Landor and Hawa, was $20,000.
The best costume award went to the gladiators from the movie “300” who are Wabash college students and fraternity brothers of Beta Theta Pi. Pull, Pull, Pulling for Wishes The Carmel Firefighters, sponsored by the Carmel Firehouse won fastest time with a plane pull time of 6.60 seconds. The winning team was headed by ICWF wish dad, Eric Frenzel who pulled in honor of his son Tyler. This first time event raised $50,500 which gave us the ability to grant the wishes of eleven Indiana Children diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
